What is Bloodstone?

This last week, Easter, brought to my mind this beautiful stone, Bloodstone.   During the Middle Ages, the red spots in the stone were thought to be spots of Christ’s blood when He was crucified on the Cross. It appears as green quartz flecked with red or yellow jasper.  The hardness of the stone is 6.5 – 7 which is based on a 1 to 10 hardness (10 being the hardest).  Most commonly known as Bloodstone but sometimes referred as “Heliotrope”. Bloodstone is a great reminder of Christ’s sacrifice for us, whether the stories are correct or not.

Bloodstone is an energy cleanser and immune stimulator for acute infections, stimulates the flow of lymph and metabolic processes, revitalizes and re energizes when the body and mind are exhausted. It helps to purify the blood, and detoxifies the liver, intestines, kidneys, spleen and bladder.  Bloodstone benefits blood-rich organs, and aids the circulation, helping in cases of leukemia as it supports the blood and removes toxins. The ancient Egyptians used it to shrink tumors, cleanse the lower chakras and realign the energies.

Psychologically, Bloodstone gives courage, encourages selflessness and idealism, and assists you in acting in the present moment.

Mentally, it calms the mind, dispels confusion, and enhances the decision-making process.

Emotionally, Bloodstone helps to ground the heart energy.  It reduces irritability, aggressiveness and impatience.

Bloodstone is a beautiful healing stone that we all can benefit from its healing properties. Be sure and check out the etsy tab to the right.  You will find many pieces of jewelry made of Bloodstone.
